Security and safety have become increasingly important for retailers in recent years. With the rise in thefts, assaults, and other incidents, retailers are in need of optimised video surveillance systems to swiftly and effectively address these issues.
A Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) system is specifically designed to monitor and control public or private spaces. It can be deployed both indoors, such as in department stores or shops, and outdoors, covering parking lots and various entrances.
The CCTV system captures video footage, which is then recorded and stored in a Physical Security Information Management (PSIM) or supervision software. This software, such as Entelec's Sky-Walker Open Integration Platform, allows operators to view the live feed from different cameras in real-time, enhancing situational awareness and incident management.
Cameras are the fundamental components of a video surveillance system. They act as the bridge between the software and the physical system, transmitting vital data to the operators. The CCTV system can accommodate various types of cameras, including both mobile and fixed cameras, offering flexibility in surveillance coverage.
A video wall is another essential element connected to a CCTV system. Installed within a control room, the video wall provides a centralised display to view the feeds from multiple cameras. Depending on the size and configuration of the video wall, operators can simultaneously monitor numerous areas or buildings, enabling comprehensive surveillance.
Modern CCTV systems go beyond mere surveillance by incorporating advanced features like image analysis. Through video analysis, these systems can automatically process surveillance footage, extracting valuable data, and sending it to the PSIM/supervision software over a network.
Video analysis empowers retailers to detect suspicious movements in targeted areas and identify items within shopping baskets. This technology enables control room operators to analyse and anticipate incidents, optimising the safety and security of a given area.
Incidents detected through video analysis can be efficiently resolved using the log feature. When a suspicious movement is identified, the data and incident details can be directly transmitted to the PSIM/supervision software, triggering an automated incident resolution procedure. This procedure, known as the handheld, incorporates predefined actions, such as raising a doubt, allowing operators to decide whether to resolve the incident or initiate additional measures.
Hypervision is a comprehensive software package that streamlines the management of video surveillance systems and infrastructures. With Hypervision, retailers can connect all their video surveillance equipment and technologies onto a single, user-friendly platform. Operators can effortlessly carry out various actions with just a few clicks, such as real-time monitoring of specific areas, conducting doubt surveys, and detecting thefts or aggressions.
