Why governments benefit from integrating their subsystems

The government is a sector that is very different from most other sectors like industry, retail, events and so on. Mostly even security, safety and comfort projects are carried out via public tenders, resulting in a tangle of different kinds of subsystems, from different suppliers and installation companies. Also, the government sector is characterized by many different types of buildings and instances. Think of ministries and town halls, public squares, military campuses, prisons and administrative services. Often spread throughout different counties and cities, the challenge for security and logistics managers to control and monitor all personnel, visitors, suppliers and systems is ever rising. And that’s without the added stress of an emergency situation.

This wide range of different types of systems results in most cases to a control room or a technical space in which operators need to be able to work with many different interfaces and software packages. They need to have knowledge and or training for each and every one of the software packages.

How Sky-Walker resolves the clutter of subsystems

Luckily, all these problems are from the past when using our open integration platform Sky-Walker. Our software platform is capable of integrating all subsystems from different vendors into one, intuitive and completely customizable user interface. Most of the subsystems in buildings and campuses for the government sector can be grouped under our 3 areas of expertise: comfort, safety and security management. The result? Operators no longer need to have knowledge of all these interfaces, and need only be trained in one, Sky-Walker. In cases of emergency, the response times are faster and the evacuations times shorter, which benefits a sector characterized by large groups of people a lot.

The added value of interacting subsystems for government purposes

Global safety and security of all previously mentioned parties can be improved by reducing false alarms and maximizing the situational awareness of the operators at hand. By integrating every system into one visual environment, interactions can be made as well. An interaction occurs when two or more subsystems are used in an interactive way with each other, even crossing the boundaries of the three domains (comfort, safety and security).

A great example of the added value of interactions in the government sector are for example automatically switched camera’s in case of an alarm. Think of a museum in which a broken window generates an alarm to Sky-Walker, while simultaneously switching to the cameras that are pointed in the direction of the broken window. The operator does not need to search for the camera within the extensive list of all cameras and knows right away what is happening at the window. All this is previously automated in the Sky-Walker configuration and can be changed later on as well. Also, in case of an alarm like this, every situation and every step taken can be reconstructed via extensive reporting.

Our solution is built on your existing infrastructure

In summary, the use of Sky-Walker can benefit the government sector in more ways than can even be written down here. The opportunities are endless. A comfortable, safe and secure environment in government buildings and campuses does not need to be something of the future. The Sky-Walker platform will connect to all existing and future systems, resulting in a truly smart solution.
