The difficulty of managing comfort, safety and security in the event sector

Exhibition & event locations are often widely spread, consisting of multiple areas or buildings. It’s hard to get a quick overview of everything that is happening at the same time. Not only because of the size of the premises, but more often because you must  deal with a lot of different people with different intentions: visitors, suppliers, staff and so on. Plus, if you have an event location with multiple rooms or wings, you can also have different events happening at the same time. Securing the comfort, security and safety of everybody on the grounds can be one hell of a task.

How Sky-Walker can help you manage

Our open platform Sky-Walker can help you overview everything. Our software platform is capable of integrating all subsystems from different vendors into one, intuitive and completely customizable user interface. Most of the subsystems in buildings and campuses for the event sector can be grouped under our 3 areas of expertise: comfort, safety and security management. The result? Operators no longer need to have knowledge of all these interfaces, and need only be trained in one, Sky-Walker. In cases of emergency, the response times are faster and the evacuations times shorter, which benefits a sector characterized by large groups of people a lot.

The added value of interacting subsystems for event purposes

Global safety and security of all previously mentioned parties can be improved by reducing false alarms and maximizing the situational awareness of the operators at hand. By integrating every system into one visual environment, interactions can be made as well. An interaction occurs when two or more subsystems are used in an interactive way with each other, even crossing the boundaries of the three domains (comfort, safety and security).

A great example of the added value of interactions in the event sector are for example automatically switched camera’s in case of an alarm. Think of a fire alarm in a certain area of the event hall, in which the operator needs immediate situational awareness to handle the alarm, and if needed evacuate all visitors and personnel. The CCTV camera's surrounding the fire detector in alarm are shown on the operator's screen automatically. The operator does not need to search for the camera within the extensive list of all cameras and knows right away what is happening. All this is previously automated in the Sky-Walker configuration and can be changed later on as well. Also, in case of an alarm like this, every situation and every step taken can be reconstructed via extensive reporting.

An thorough example of our platform doing it's thing

Everything starts when a visitor enters the event site. Free parking areas can be monitored by sensors, visitors cross a barrier while their license plate is scanned and so on. This way, the security staff knows exactly which car is in what area. The same approach can be used with suppliers and employees. They can get permission to cross certain parking areas, have entrance to specific buildings using a badge system or can be monitored by an intelligent CCTV system.

Inside the building a wide range of different systems can be monitored and controlled by our open platform Sky-Walker. Generally, we always think of systems that involve security: door sensors, camera systems, intercom, the treatment of minor or urgent alarms, etc.

Furthermore, integrating comfort systems are part of our expertise as well. For instance: Sky-Walker can control your HVAC installation based on a certain routine, it can monitor freezers to check if they are wasting energy when not being used, it can control lighting via smart lighting systems that are specific to daily programs are fine examples.

In summary, the use of Sky-Walker can benefit the event sector in more ways than can even be written down here. The opportunities are endless. A comfortable, safe and secure environment in event area's does not need to be something of the future. The Sky-Walker platform will connect to all existing and future systems, resulting in a truly smart solution.
